I recieved an e-mail saying it was from chase bank. Checked the link and it went to a site that had nothing to do with chase in the info bar. When I called the phone # in the e-mail (like an idiot) the lady asked for my social within the first minute even though I said as far as I know I do not have a chase acount. I should have been smarter but at least I did not give her any sensitive info such as my social. Lesson learned this is a big phishing scam I hope they all die of stomach cancer. I hopr I do not recieve any calls from them as that would be a further irratant.

I received this email from B of A. I looked up the number listed which brought me here. I felt skeptical at first from what I read. The number is in fact legit.I logged on to my B of A account. You can go to customer service page and select alerts. You will there see the same email and the same number.I would recommend to anyone that does get this type of email always verify with your bank before calling. Some of these people here are saying they spoke to a live person. I only had an automated voice, never spoke to a live person, and never had to give out my full SS#

I too got the same email from B of A very early this morning ... I spoke with several people in their customer service department and confirmed the alert in the alert history of my online account where it listed this number as the one to call (the note in the history was exactly the same as the email ...)I feel confident that this is a legitimate B of A number and am glad that they froze my account

I had a message this afternoon from this number...message said they were from B of A and there was fraudlent activity on my ATM/debit card. I knew better than to just call that number, so I went online, saw some postings. Then I called the number I usually call at B of A. Turns out it's a legit number. My card had to be frozen. Something about my card info being "compromised." There was no fraudlent activity on my account. Customer Service said it was probably something like a laptop being stolen with information on it. Personally I think it may have to do with the US Airways flight that landed in the Hudson River yesterday. B of A is based in Charlotte, and there were B of A employees on that plane coming back from a meeting in NY regarding B of A and WElls Fargo. I would bet that there were laptops and papers lost.

They're still at it!"We detected irregular activity on your Chase Bank account Check Card on 04/01/2009." Woah. First of all, I do not use any of Chase's services, and, secondly we're barely into the new year, and they're detecting "irregular activity" this coming April! I didn't know Chase employed psychics. Kind of ironic that they accidentally transposed the 4 and the 1, changing the date to April Fool's! What do you call phishers that think someone will fall for an April Fool's joke in January? Phools? By the way, the web address they give, "www.chase.com," is the legitimate site for Chase, so these creeps will include just enough truth to get you to swallow their lie.

I received this email at 6:16 PM EST today. (pasted below) They cited irregular activity in a state that I have not been to in over 4 years. I can see this transaction on my account. So, I called them back and the money has since been replaced. They asked for my card info and social. I have also now moved all of the money in that account to another. I may have already messed up pretty bad. Please advise. I believe that this is a legit number. At first, after reading all of the above, I was nervous. When I called the number, the lady hung up on me. I called back - she transferred me to the main customer service. But I called back again, and I hit 2 for "speak to the spanish representative". Turned out, the spanish representative could speak English too - so I explained the whole scenario to her, and she was able to access my account and read back transactions to me.I only gave her card number, DOB, last 4 of social for verification, and I verified 3 transactions. She "released the hold on my card" due to some Christmas purchases.Hopefully, my money won't be spent on the internet by hackers if this number is indeed a fake. I'll find out Friday morning

i received the same email from "bank of america" (Irregular Check Card Activity) - i phoned them back from 3 different phones. i got 3 different persons asking me for my social. of course, they got nothing... i provided them with a wrong debit card number and from what i could gather from them, i can tell you that much:1. they know when a debit card number is wrong.2. they are always very fishy (when refuzed to offer them my social security number, they did not mind)3. they have access to electronic transactions and bank of america customer official phone number (known by the bank)4. they only ask ONE security question instead of two!5. the email was sent from a domain hosted in NY, only one letter in the doman was different: instead of ealert.bankofamerica.com they used ealerts.bankofamerica.com6. they stated that they have no employee id?!?7. i've put a little bit or pressure on one of them and they sounded very strage... (i said "well, if you are not from bank of america, i wish you all the luck in the world with the feds"). the operator name was irina and i pronounced her name with an eastern european perfect accent (that's when she got scared). generally, the whole discussion was tense (from their side...)8. these discussions took place between 11PM and 12PM (all bank of america offices are closed!)do NOT phone this phone number. phone your bank the very next day (at 8AM) and inform them about this emailregards, daniel

Summary: Valid BofA fraud protection call presumed but poor implementation and poor customer service. I received an email with the number 1.877.833.5617 stating there was suspicious activity on my BofA account in portion: "Please visit Online Banking at www.bankofamerica.com to review your account activity, and then call us immediately at 1.877.833.5617. We will review the activity on your account with you and upon verification, we will remove any restrictions placed on your account." I telephoned the number and the recording requested that I input my debit card or checking account number (which I did not do). When a live person came on the phone who asked me for the same information I refused. She told me to call the number on the back of my card (there was no number there) so I went online and spent about 20 mins trying to get an after hours fraud verification person in order that my account not be interrupted for holiday shopping if it was legitimate (I did make many extra holiday purchases). I visited my online checking website while on very long hold times and saw that the same email alert appears when I click on Alerts at the very bottom in tiny letters of my BofA website. After 3 or 4 transfers I was sent to an automated "customer protection" division where I input verification of my last 3 purchases, however, I have no idea if they somehow disapproved those valid charges or not. Either way, a very poor BofA customer fraud protection service that wasted about 45 mins of my time and left me with many questions about whether or not my funds are available for Christmas shopping use on the day before the biggest shopping day of the year. Very poor customer service indeed.

I recieved this e-mail this afternoon shortly after making an unusually large purchase so I thought perhaps my account was being flagged. So I called 877 833 5617. She GAVE me information then asked for my social. I gave it to her, as soon as I did I realized my error. My red flag didn't raise fast enough. She asked for my birthdate and other account #s so she could check - I did not give her those numbers. I am kicking myself for my lapse in judgement. This letter had the CHASE logo on it also. I thought the answering recording said Chase bank - however later in the afternoon I called back to check it out and the recording said Bank of AmericaIrregular Check Card ActivityWe detected irregular activity on your Chase Bank account Check Card on 11/05/2008. If you Google 877-833-5617, it IS a reported PHISHING SCAM. The send you an email (from sender "Bank of America Alert") with a subject of Irregular Activity On Your Check Card. I called the number a couple days after I had received the email (gotta love procrastination) and was told that there was irregular activity noticed on my check card account and that a hold was being put on the account until I verified information. Note: I had been using the card with no problem for a couple days (and frequently) with no issues. The woman could verify my address and the last four digits of my account number. Think about how common both of those pieces of information are to come across. Addresses, and usually current ones at that, are a dime a dozen these days, so if they are verifying that, it does NOT mean they are legit. And the last four digits appear on *everything*...a printed receipt, a bank teller slip that you may have thrown out, an online shopping purchase after the other numbers are starred out. This too is NOT proof that they are legit.Even after she told me that information, I was not convinced. And when she then asked for my social, my red flags really went up. I spent a good amount of time on the phone with BofA and their Alert/Fraud department when my card was stolen last year and not once did they ask for my social. I went online while I was on the phone with the woman and saw at that point that there was nothing out of the ordinary and no alerts on my account. She said that it may not have processed on the online access yet. Still waaaay too fishy for me. resisted again and told her I would rather go into a location and verify in person, at which point she backed off and said that would be fine.Point #1: I never went in to a location and now a month and a half later still have not had a problem using the card, nor have I seen any holds on my account.Point #2: There are many ways redirecting calls that come in to any number, so even if you call B of A "directly" (how do you know that it's actually going to a real rep in the first place?), they could look up the number and see that technically it is still authorized for their use. This does not mean that a scammer hasn't started redirecting calls from this approved line to their own answering lines. If you are asked to verify anything, ALWAYS do it IN PERSON! This is the ONLY secure way. Do not be a victim to this scam, because even though my Google of the number showed that the phishing site had been shut down, it does not mean that the scammers have been caught and/or found another way around that.

I just got this notice, and when I called my bank (B of A) to verify, they said the number was legit, and there really was suspicious activity. So this number is what BofA is still using as of 11/3/08. Not sure what every one else is reporting!

I just got a phish (10/28/08) using this number as customer service for Chase bank. Same bull, my account has shown unusual activity. I went to Chase using a new browser and checked. I had no new messages. I phoned (not this number on the notice)and verified what I thought. Sent the real Chase the e-mail and "path" information. I hope they closed the links to the phony. I wonder how many they got? Just a word of wisdom for those that don't know. ANY notice like this. Open a new browser and use YOUR address in your favorites or Google the company in question for the real links and address. I would not even click on a link from suspected e-mail. Good Luck to all.

Why on earth would anyone give up their 16 digit account number and their social security number to anyone? If they can not identify you by your name or address, do not give them any additional information. In the scam email I received, you couldn't even talk with a live person. I called because I wanted to let them know they would be going straight to Hell for being criminal nitwits. My email: We detected irregular activity on your Chase Bank account Check Card on 10/8/2008. For your protection, you must verify this activity before you can continue using your card. Please visit Online Banking at www.Chase.com to review your account activity, and then call us immediately at 1.877.833.5617 . We will review the activity on your account with you and upon verification, we will remove any restrictions placed on your account. Want to confirm this email is from Chase Bank ? Sign in to Online Banking and select Alerts History to verify this alert. And yes, the recording says Bank of America, not Chase! And there are zero alerts in my online bank account.

Just got an automated call at home and contact BoA at their regular Cust. Service #. They verified that the 877 IS their ATM account customer care, but also confirmed that nothing was wrong with my account, no suspicious activity, etc. They said the call was automated and sent in error.

I got an e-mail with this number in it (not a call from them). Due to the entries here I ignored it and called the number on the back of my card (as you are supposed to do when you suspect a scam).Turns out the number was legitimate but calling the number on the back of your card is a sounder choice.Philip

Patience,I received an e-mail message claiming the same thing as you. I unfortunately gave them my social security #. Please beware because when you call this number it does seem like you're calling Bank of America. As soon as I gave her my social, she said the e-mail notice was a error. I also, called Bank of America to verify the phone # and was told the same thing as you, Patience. Now I have to worry about someone stealing my identity!

I received a message claiming to be the fraud department for Bank of America debit bank card at 877-833-5617. I have NO accounts at B of A but they asked for my SS# to look up any possible accounts. I called the REAL B of A to check the phone number - it WAS a correct # but has been changed and not used for official business for several months. BEWARE!!!
