I filter all my calls with an answering ma****e, and the caller didn't choose to leave a message. I get that a lot. I have my number registered on the Do Not Call list. It needs to be better enforced.

I just bought this phone for my dad and activated it, thus would appreciate it if they were stopped from calling this number

The reason for the "dead" air when they call is that they are a call center (most likely) and have what is called a predictive dialer. These dialers call up to 60 numbers at once and the first people who answer are the first ones who get "live" bodies to speak with. The numbers can be set so that the dialer will redial your number up to several times a day. Unless you speak to a live person it is very difficult to get off the list or have your number removed from their list. Many telemarketing places buy lists or "sample" as they call it. Also, sample can be "spun" which means that it will take an area code and exc****e and ramdomly dial numbers within a specified geographical area. Hope this helps.

Debt collection agency. After a couple of seconds wait a message plays telling you to call them. Does not give option to opt out. Just called them back for a second time to let them know it is a wrong number and to stop calling.
