Still calling two over a year now.

We get call from debt collectors daily for about * months now  for a Donna Weaver. We keep asking them to take our number their list but they just pass the name and number to another dedt co.

These people called my husband's sister-in-laws mother's house ( i know I am confused too). They asked for my husband, but he has never even lived with her, nor do I even know her name. This was my first contact with my husband's in-laws family. When we tried to call them back, the number just went to voice mail and said all operators are busy. He has not lived in VA for over 10 years and has never had anything to do with this agency. We are convinced it is a crock of sh*t and want the harassment to stop. This is ridiculous.

They called my parent's home and left a message for me.  I don't live with my parents. This is my parent's new home and I have not lived there.  This person left her name and ext. asking for me to call her back.

Portfolio Recovery****ociates contacted me in 2007 to collect a debt for a utility bill I don't owe (from apparent ID theft). The bill is from 2006 at an address I moved from back in 2004. In other words, I was not there to run up the utilities. I have been at my current residence since 2004.I cooperated initially, thinking this would be easily cleared up--the landlord confirms we left in 2004, the deed for our house closed in 2004 and is available at the courthouse. We provided copies, and all do***entation they asked for. In retrospect, my faith that a collection agency would be willing to clear up a mistake was pretty naive, but I'd never had any dealings with collection agencies before.As it turns out, they have screamed at me, called me names, called me a deadbeat--all this is a***nst state law: West ******ia Fair Debt Collection Practices Act § 46A-2-125, Oppression and abuse.They even told me to pay the money even though it is not my debt because it will be the only way they will leave me alone. I don't know if this is strictly a***nst the law or not, but it probably made me madder than anything else they have done. Pay money I don't owe?!! I am far more likely to sprout wings and poo on their heads.They have threatened to garnish my wages (I don't get wages, so this would indeed be a trick.) Also, that threat is a***nst state law, as well: West ******ia Fair Debt Collection Practices Act § 46A-2-124.In addition, they frequently refuse to identify themselves when they call--this is also a***nst state law: West ******ia Fair Debt Collection Practices Act § 46A-2-127, Fraudulent, deceptive or misleading representations. They call, but won't state where they're calling from--they only give a name and number, but not a business. They insist, "It's personal!" The number, naturally, Googles as Portfolio Recovery****ociates.They have also threatened to come to my house and take things. They have threatened to sue me. And so on. Keep in mind, that all this would be very, very illegal even if I actually owed the money, which I DO NOT.I had an attorney write a cease communication letter to them in January 2008, and they STILL continue to contact me, a***nst state law. After that, they did stop calling until October 2009--I thought it was over-- but for some unknown reason have begun a***n. I have not spoken with them for this go around: they have instructions to contact my attorney, and they can do that. I don't need to be abused a***n.Currently I have complaints pending at the VA BBB and with the WV state Attorney General. (I am in WV, and they are in VA.) Our attorney General in WV doesn't seem to have patience for this sort of thing, so I have hopes that this will finally be resolved for me. If this is happening to you, please contact your state Attorney General's office. This company actually called a family member of mine and asked questions about me. They asked if I was still working in a job that I never had! When my family member asked who they were and what this was about, they just left the number and ex. She said her name was Isabella and to have me call them. I have taken care of my debts, and this is just plain B.S.

Portfolio Recovery****ociates is a company of liars, thieves and cheats! They are harassing people in these difficult economic times and it's shameful - especially since most of their calls are based on wrong information. Unfortunately reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau or the FTC or the state attorney general doesn't stop them from calling my phone & my job repeatedly every day. They ignore cease & desist requests and they refuse to provide proof of debt. I don't understand why all these so-called "consumer" laws cannot be enforced and stop this company from their unlawful practices. All over the Internet people are complaining but no one is listening.  This company is wasting people's time trying to defend yourself a***nst debts that have been paid, or that you never had at all or that is old and no longer collectable. They are reporting to credit reports and affecting people's credit with false information. They are the worst of the bad collection agencies.  And if one makes the mistake of talking to them by phone they are rude, hateful and seem to enjoy making as many unkind accusations as they can. It’s a disgrace that a company like this is permitted to operate and no one can stop them.  They will sue and they can negatively affect your credit report - even when the information they have is incorrect. I've been dealing with this company for several years and I regret that I ever talked to them. Perhaps if you don't return their call or talk to them they will go away.

porfolio recovery services will try and collect on debts that have already been settled years ago and arn't on your credit report anymore and even if the debt wasn't settled  it's so old it wouldn't be on your credit report! if you have a more recent debt that they are trying to collect on and they don't succeed as soon as the time comes and it falls off your credit report they try and collect on older debts that may or may not have been settled! in my case the debt was settled years ago. also remember any debts you have that are still on your credit report but are about to fall off will stay on for another 7 years (or however many years it is that they stay on your credit report)if you make any kind of payment on the debt and even though you can settle the debt for a lessor amount usually even if you do that it will still show up as a negative item in your credit report!

Fact is Portfolio Recovery buys dead , way past the statute of limitations, junk debts for pennies on the dollar and stiff arms you and scares you into paying them for so****ing they have nearly nothing invested in. If you have a legit debt that you are legally bound to pay, set up a payment plan. If they are trying to collect a 10 year old debt plus with no activity since charge-off (thier specialty), don't give them anything, you don't owe them anything, you never borrowed money from the low lifes. But if you pay one cent they re-age the debt and they have you. DON"T LIVE SCARED AND DON"T LET THEM DANGLE YOUR INTEGRITY OVER A CLIFF, THESE PEOPLE ARE S***!!!!!!

I received a call at 9:00 at night from this agency.  Isn't that a***nst the law??  Anyways, IF I owe anything, it most certainly is from about 10 years ago and that is way past the statute of limitations.

It DOES matter how old the debt is. I made some bad mistakes 10+ years ago. I had 5 creditors I dealt with and this is the only one I refused to pay back because of how they treated me. Everyone else got paid back and everything negative from that bad point in my life has fallen off and at the time of purchasing our home 2 years ago, my credit score was 803! Only a year before that it was 560 so****ing. If it's been on for 7 years since the last activity it WILL fall off and they can NOT add it back unless you make another payment. The 7 years bad credit is your penalty and once paid, consider the debt paid. Unless they want to reimburse me for the 7 years of bad credit (which my price is a 7 year supply of Omaha steaks) in exc****e for my payment (which I can now easily pay), they will not get a cent. Every other creditor understood my position and worked with me. PR seemed like the best tactic was to have a ******* in a cubicle call me names and try to insult my integrity. Apparently it works on some but I guarantee I will go to the grave with their debt simply for the fact of knowing that they spent money on the debt from the original creditor and money on the employees and auto-dialer technology. So from me at least, they're in the hole.

and another thing, you don't make much sense.  You ar telling these people on here all the wrg stuff, not caring.  The fact is, it does not matter how old the debt is, it is owed and does effect your credit whether you like it or not.  The only way to make it go away is to pay it

If they call you note the time and call back number and log-on to https://www.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx and file a complaint if you are registered on the no call list. Each violation can cost up to $10,000 if they are habitual in their annoyance. You are not responsible for any debt over 7 years old that they have not tried to recover in COURT, if they have not taken you to COURT to recover the debt, forget about it - you really don't need credit with the wall street filth, cash is the best position in our economy.

On Jan 9th I received a call from Jason with Portfolio Recovery Services.  The call came in on my direct office line.  When I answered the phone I identified myself by both name and company.  They asked for an individual (not myself) and I informed them that there is no person in this office by that name and that this is a business line.Jason then informed me that the number would be taken out of their directory.On Jan 20th I received a call from a Krystal with Portfolio Recovery Services asking for the same individual.  Only Krystal gave her number as 1-800-383-8013 which is also listed to Portfolio Recovery Services.  When I s****ed to mention which Federal code that Krystal is in alleged violation of by calling me, she actually s****ed getting upset.

I received a call from this number, asking for my business partner.  The woman wanted to speak to him.  He is not at my number.  She wanted me to give her his number and would not say where or what company she was calling from.  My partner does not owe anyone money.  His wife passed away last year.  Does this have anything to do with these calls?

They called my mother looking for me at her house, which I have not lived at for 20 years, and told her that I was being used as a reference for someone that they would not name after many attempts of my mother trying to find out what the phone call was about. Apparently a complete lie.If the post about credit dead beats is correct, I have debt but am not in default on any of it.

TO Bulldog with PRA, as you name implies.. if you guys were upfront and nice when you call maybe we would be more inclined to pickup and open our checkbooks. We understand you are doing a job, just stop pretenting to be a friend when you call or get rude when we ask questions. Got a call asking for my dad, who is deceased as of last month.  I know he owed a lot of money to various companies, he put us both through school.  next time they call I will tell them that he is deceased, and not id myself as his son.  If they ask my relationship I will say that I live here now, and to give me details so I can arrange for his family to send then the ***** certificate.p3z3

I just received a message on my cell phone.  The woman left a message saying, "Hi, Debbie.  This is Jasmine.  Please give me call when you get the chance.  My number is (866) 909-0529 (Ext. 5***4)."She had a pleasant voice and demeanor, and seemed to act like she was a friend of mine, just leaving a message.But, I am wise to bill/debt collectors.  It was from Portfolio Recovery.  I do not have any friends named Jasmine - especially working at Portfolio Recovery.

This establishment is actually reputable.  They are attemting to collect debts.  I had one account in collections to which I knew I owed and spoke with Chad about it.  He got me a settlement and was extremely polite and helpful.

Call from 866-909-0529 came to my cellphone.  My wife didn't answer the phone as she did not recognize the number.  Caller left a message saying I needed to call back about a 'portfolio recovery.'  Sounds like a scam to me, as I am deployed to Iraq and the only portfolio I have is through a large, military bank.
