I work for this company and I am a collections rep. The number you see on your caller ID is specifically for outgoing calls. We are a third party contractor and not GMAC but we've been trained by GMAC to call customers. If you have to speak to GMAC directly then you should call 1-800-850-4622. If your payment is lost or missing or put to the wrong thing call 214-874-2425. GMAC is in Texas.You hear nothing because it's an automatic dialer that will put you on hold until the next operator is free. I've been doing this for two months and the stress is really making me ill.I don't like it but there's not much out there no*****ays especially in Upstate NY. I didn't want this job but I had to take it as I was on unemployment and I'm required to accept any "reasonable" employment. I would have preferred to stay on unemployment to concentrate on finding a beter job but, this really is almost all that's out there. SO I grin and bear it. We all do. Here's some helpful info. We operators do not choose the numbers we call, they are on an automatice dialer and we do not even get to see the name of the person we are calling until well after they have answered the phone. SOmetimes 5 seconds later! Then we have to say the Mini Miranda blurb and only THEN we get to see your file. That's just how the system goes. I call himan beings, I would hope that they would remember that I am a human being too. If you put the phone number on your loan application, you'll get a call there when you are late. What is "late"? The way GMAC sees it is if your bill is due on the first and payment is not recieved by the first you are late as of the second and we have to call you to find out where the money is. So, we end up annoying already stressed out people. We are required by law to say that Mini MIranda blurb. "This is an attempt to collect a debit. Any information recieved..." and we are required by law to say the whole thing even if you know it by heart too and please, don't flip out about the word "Debt". Any loan still outstanding is a debt even if you are on time with all your payments. So, please, let us finish all that stuff, so we can go on tell you what you need and what you want to know. According to federal regualtions (FDCIP) we're not supposed to give any personal information on the phone unless we verify who it is we are talking to. This is frustrating because if someone called me about so****ing personal I'd sure as heck want to make sure they were legit! We are also not allowed to mention anything about a bill, debit or mortgage. So, we have to be stealthy at first. Is Mr. Soandso there? Is this Mr. Soandso? We aren't supposed to leave voicemails or messages because we cannot guarantee who will hear it. I am sorry that you are treated poorly. That's not right and counter productive. I try to talk to people as people and not $$$. I often have to call people who were already called and spoken to that day or who are in foreclosure or bankruptcy! I thought that was a***nst the FDCIP to speak to someone more than once per day but my supervisor said that it's just one of those things and I'll have to get used to it. It was inferred to me that the law was merely a guideline to appease consumer groups. (AKA to shut them up) Our office (COl& Sal) is hired by another company that is hired by GMAC. There is no long term contract as yet. But we are all trained by GMAC personel. Our job is depressing, highly stressful, it's ***** and dusty (Lord knows when they c****ed the air filters in the office last.) and to make matters worse the average temp is 80 degrees. Management is incompetant, at best. This is American's modern day sweat shop. The calling system is slow or too fast so either I'm waiting as much as 30 minutes between calls or they come so quickly customers are ****ing up before I can get to them and I don't get to speak to anyone. We are graded by the time it takes us to get someone off the phone. We're alloted more time if the customer is making a payment. But I don't care. I'll talk with you or listen as long as it takes. Wrong numbers are a constant problem! We make the proper notes in the system but they keep coming back and there's nothing we operators can do about it except hear people yell at us. I had a friend who was in the modification department, he was supposed to be calling to see if the customer got their package of paperwork instead he was calling people who's homes were already lost. Some people were so depressed, they wept on the phone! It's not an easy job and I loathe it. But because this company can't get it's act together we operators are having a worse time of it. I don't get bonuses or comission. I just get a straight hourly rate so that I can pay my bills. I'm a renter, there's no modification for me. My rent goes up every year and no one's got my back. I will admit that I do get discusted with people who aren't making their $200 mortgage payments. ON the other hand I'm discusted by the peolpe who can't make their $3500.00 mortgage payments because they had to buy a $950,000.00 home to impress whomever. But I never let people know how I feel. It's just burns my biscuits though. Especially when it's the average people who are gettng *****ed from both sides and I cannot do a **** thing to help them. That is what is frustrating. I can suggest they go for a mod but they'll fall deeper into debt durring the process because some genius tells them to not pay until the mod is complete. So they rack up more fees, bad credit marks and they aren't guaranteed a mod. What if they are denied? It does happen and then you are two months behind. Going for a mod doesn't mean you don't have to pay your bills. So, the computer has us call you the first day after the due date. After 30days the company reports a negative to your credit...mod or not. We deal with people who are losing their homes, going through bankruptcy, barely getting by and who are just obstinate ****s. I've spoken to people who refuse to pay because they don't feel like it or who feel they are en***led to a free house because they have three or four other mortgages. I have talked to people who are insulted thay they are expected to pay a bill at all! But mostly I talk to people who are working two or three jobs just to keep their family's home and they are still sliding I wish I could help, but I am powerless. So, do what I can, I educate. Which is why I've posted here.This job is not easy but it's all we've got right now. So please, give us a break. No one chooses to become a bill collector. Granted, there are a lot of ****s out there manning the phones, but the majority of us are just trying to keep our heads above water too. The whole office is depressed and stressed out and there seems to be no end in sight. Meanwhile, I'm applying for everything just to get free! Wish me luck!

I called the 800 number today and got a very nice person who answered the phone named Theresa. She listened without interruption and told me she would have someone call me back or I could call back. I opted to call back and asked for the two people she told me to ask for (Chuck or Tammy). I was put on hold and could not speak to these two and another supervisor or marketing spoke to me and it was obvious she was "handling" me, not listening, and was interrupting me to defend the company rather than to service the client (me). I told her she should look at this site to see how bad her company is looking and how bad their client is made to look (GMAC), and she cut me off and told me, "I've looked at it in the past". The person who answered the phone that morning is probably a receptionist and she put this marketing stooge to shame in in ability to be helpful instead of condesending. Now, I will have to go the long way and call GMAC to actually see what they are talking about. The stooge kept saying it's regarding "collections". I said I was not behind in my payments but I requested a "loan modification". She said it's the same thing. Not to me, it isn't. I'm insulted that they think it's the same thing. It's really too bad these mortgages get sold to someone whom I would never ordinary do business.

I have been receiving calls for the last three weeks from this number and get only static or if unanswered I get no voice mail. I have attempted to call this number and it says it's a voicemail, however, this person at this number does not subscribe. For the first time tonight there was a person on the other end of the phone, who said she was from GMAC Mortgage and asked me to verify personal information. I said, "Why are you calling me" and she said, "It's GMAC Mortgage and I can relinguish any other information until I can verify who I am talking to". I said, "Neither can I!" She said "OK" and the call ended. Does this sound like a ligitimate practice to anyone out there???? I intend to report, report, report. This is harrassment.

I certainly would not want to do business with a mortgage company or any other company that does not answer there phone and has not set up voice mail. Very su****ious. They said payment on the 15th is a grace period and your payment is actually late on the first. It's too bad when these lenders sell your loan you don't have a choice as to who you do business with. When I dialed "call back", a female answered and said "GMAC". This is the mortgage company calling if you have a mortgage with them. They are obnoxious and call several times a day as a "courtesy" to remind you your mortgage is due even though you have until the 15th of the month to pay. I tried to get them to cease and desist but its almost impossible. We need a class action suit
