SCAM/HARASSMENT If you call 866 numbers back, they can collect personal information from your phone record: name, address, etc. No Caller Information on ID. 866-230-7761 Global Tel Link. Automated message left stating that a prisoner is trying to contact us and if we want to speak to the person call back this bogus phone number. Night before we received two calls from: Riverside County 951-600-8865 Teleport Communications Group (TCG) 3075 Auld Rd. Murrieta, CA. 92563-2599 a private communications company near or at Southwest Detention Center. First time I answered, they ***g up on me. Second time, they did not leave a message. Law-abiding citizens, we know of no one in jail, at least not at this time. We will be reporting these calls to donotcall.gov

Same as other reports-shows up "unavailable", VM said someone in jail trying to call me collect but my phone won't accept the charges, need to call Global Tel link. If selling minutes, they're on wrong track bc I don't buy minutes on my phone service. Gotten this 3 times in past week. So much for Do Not Call Registry.

This is not a bogus number! It is Global Tel Link and yes it does come up "unavailable". All you have to do is go to their website and see that this number is real. My cousin was in jail and even though she was released we did receive a call from them. If you call this number it leads to customer service. All they want to do is sell you more minutes. FYI: If you created an account with them you can get your balance back! You have to put it in writing and it can take 60 days to process.

the call came up unknown caller and of course i didn't answer. i checked my voicemail from a different line and it said someone from los angeles jail wanted to contact me and for me to call 8662307761. i called the number and it gave me options to make a payment, i just ***g up. i'm so glad i looked up this number because i became worried that someone i knew was trying to get a hold of me. i've never been asked to pay to receive calls from someone that was locked up.

HOW TO BLOCK:After receiving this BOGUS call, and googling the number (****ay Internet), I phoned my company, verizon, to ask how to deal with it.This may be helpful to you:The guy said to google www.donotcall.gov and check out that info.(But we are already on that list, so this 866 nonsense must bypass it.)Also, for $5 a month, we can pay to have calls blocked. If you're actually receiving 3 of these a day, that may be an expense you don't mind. Me, I'm just going to ignore these pests.

I just received a call as well... it came up as "unavailable" on my cell. That's a first sign that it's a scam. I googled the number before calling back, since my son is incarcerated. However, the REAL pre-paid numbers ALWAYS give the name of the person calling...in their own voice. I have filed a complaint with the FTC, first since my cell is on the do not call list, and secondly to report this scam. I suggest everyone do the same.

i rcvd a call this morning from (866) 230-7761, stating an inmate was attempting to call. because no name was mentioned, i was su****ious. i googled this number to find that the number is a scam call. the real Global Tel's number is (800) 231-0193, and they will quickly check to see if any inmate has attempted to call you in the last six months. no one had tried my number, so i know i just got roped into the scam. THIS SCAM NUMBER WILL ACCEPT CC INFO, CHARGE YOU, THEN DECLINE TALK TIME WITH ANY INMATE YOU THINK YOU ARE ACCEPTING CALLS FROM. BEWARE. it's very sad that this scam is preying on those of us affected by incarceration. very low.
(866) 230-7761 - August 31st, 2008 4:00am
when you call the number back, it will give you options. one of the options is to set up a new account. you'll need a visa or mastercard to set it up. they give you a 25$ option or a 50$ option. it enables inmates to call you. it works like a pre-payed card.
(866) 230-7761 - September 26th, 2008 4:00am
This is a scam. I've received calls from two other 866 numbers telling me to call the 7761 number back to give them my credit card number. It's a way for people to steal your credit card number and nothing more. Don't even pick up your phone for these calls.
