I just learned so****ing scary: SOME prefixes from foreign countries are set up so the charges go to the number called, NOT the number that did the calling. So even if we let the caller get through to the answering ma****e and they don't say a word, technically we answered their call, so will be charged for it! Unfortunately if didn't list which prefixes that applies to, so the only way to find out for sure is to check the phone bill. If there are charges to a prefix with a supposedly "toll free" area code, you will have your first prefix to block calls from. Apparently there is no recourse, either, according to the article I read... you just have to pay it.
Called 1:48 pm 4/22/13. Caller ID just said Out of Area, so I didn't pick up; let it go to answering ma****e. Dead air on answering ma****e, then ***g up without saying a thing. If this is from Dominican Republic, as somebody else says, it was no doubt a phishing scam. I'm going to get myself one of those canned air horn things they sell for boaters, then answer someday. It may not stop the callers, but it'll put at least one of them out of commission until his ears stop bleeding!
