However, just because they ask for your SIN does not necessarily mean the caller is not a CRA representative. Due to privacy concerns, your SIN could be a**** the security questions asked to verify your iden***y before they divulge any information. De Waal recommended ignoring all e-mails claiming to be from the CRA as they never contact individuals online and that it is rare for the agency to call anyone not expecting a call. If you do suspect you are being scammed, a caller from the CRA will provide you with their general inquiries number, which can be verified online or in the phone book. From there, they will direct you through the necessary channels. Total scam, not an authorized number through Ca***a Revenue.

Lately I've been receiving calls from 1-800-931-1026 and 1-800-959-2250. Both numbers claiming they are from Ca***a Revenue Agency. (Separate numbers gave the option to speak in a different language of choice). Once you pick up the phone call, it will sound like a legitimate Ca***a Revenue Agency voice recording w/options to choose English or French. It redirected my call to an actual agent. Agent asked me to verify my name, birthdate and mailing address. In this matter, they actually had my old address, which I don't even know how they got a hold of. I didn't even tell them my old address. Then they proceeded to tell me that they are part of Ca***a Revenue Agency Collection Department saying that they overpaid me last year and now I owed money. They said that there was a re*****sment on my income tax return and that I owed $4000. I became su****ious when the agent kept on saying I owed money and I had to confirm a payment by tonight at 6pm. I s****ed arguing with him on the phone when he s****ed asking which bank I dealt with and s****ed naming the list of banks available in Ca***a even though I said I would not be making any payment until I know what is going on, and that I have all my paperwork in front of me. He s****ed getting impatient when I said no I won't be making any payment. He s****ed getting frustrated and I said if it was true, that I would call back. That's when I ***g up.

This is really Ca***a revenue. I spoke to them today and I verified that it is a legitimate call

I received 2 calls from these guys one on the 15 of july and one on the 22 i don't believe these are real i have dealt with revenue ca***a and they always send mail first it's protocol and they don't call my cell unless they have to and then they request that i call them back on a land line for security reasons i am sure this is a scam because regardless of the fact that the government may know that we through this stuff out we still receive letters to allow us to contact them for our security and there are people like myself who actually respond to the letters

It's a scam!  i called REV CA***A and they said they always write first and call only if you don't get in touch with them after a while - the name the guy gave was not a CRA employee's and the number was NOT A valid CRA phone number. The the number called me just now.  Same fake number showed on my phone.  The prompts had c****ed.  It sounds fake before but this time it was like they recorded the CRA answering script.  The name on my phone was REV CAN the first time they called, now, with the same fake number, it showes CRA.TOTAL SCAM.  Also, you have to wonder if the posters saying it is real aren't just people from the rip off **** calling us all.I told the guy I wasn't giving him any inof and he said "fine, you're running up interest charges."  Yeah, like CRA would say that.

The number is legit. I checked with Revenue Ca***a and they say they gave up mailing payment reminders, because "people just throw them away". Instead, they employ an agency whose job it is to irritate you with daily calls, thus hopefully drilling into your conscious....

GOT A CALL FROM 1-800-931-1026 WOMEN SPOKE IN SUCH A THICK ACCENT I HAD TO HAVE HER REPEAT HERSELF MANY TIMES.  CALL CAME IN AFTER NORMAL GOV. Scammers! 1-800-931-1026. Claiming to be the CRA. First off folks, the CRA only verifies info when you call them. Also, by law they have to send you do***entation by mail if you owe CRA money. The call was an autodialer call as well, which CRA does not use. The person picked up the autodialer when I answered the phone. She asked for my DOB and SIN number. I told her she was not very good at her job, and that she should try making money legally. She said, "sir if you **** up, we will just keep calling back". I said...good, because I will continued to call you an idiot and keep on ****ing up on her...which I did. DO NOT give out personal information over the phone. EVER!

Never give out any information like this over the phone no matter what. If revenue ca***a wants to get ahold of you, they will send you a letter.

Legitimate Revenue Ca***a number. Called about GST arrears, gave out legitimate GST inquiries numbers (1-877-322-7849, and 1-800-959-5525), both of which are printed on the GST return forms sent by postmail.

Even though this number MAY respond as a legit Revenue Ca***a number the people who are using it are NOT Revenue Ca***a!  They are disguising their actual iden***y by using this number.  It's a scam known as Vishing where a scam artist(s) by using Voip technology will cloak themselves as a legitimate government agency or business with the intention of trying to con you out of personal information.  Revenue Ca***a will not ask you for banking information over the phone.   And if they were going to garnishee your bank account or wages there is a lengthy process they must go through prior to that and they will always (as is the LAW) mail you correspondence apprising you of the impending situation to allow you ample opportunity to take action before it gets to that point.  There is even a poster on this board who said that she did not even owe Revcan any money but they called her anyhow.  Why would they do that?  Trust me THIS IS A SCAM!   Revcan would never call and not leave a message. They would not ask for personal info like bank account information.  I've even heard of stories of people who were asked for the SIN's and banking info of relatives of the people they were speaking to.  Does that sound like so****ing Revcan would do?

This is a scam, there is no government company that will call you over and over a***n..if they need to get ahold of you they will send you a letter especially if you owe them money.  I know people that are getting these calls and they have also been victims of iden***y theft.

They have been calling everyday for several weeks. I just called back the 800 number. A ma****e from revenu ca***a redirected me to an agent who told me it was a automated dialing ma****e. She offered to verify if I owed them money. To do so she asked for my SIN and I refused to give it over the phone. I still don't know what this is all about but I am sure I do not owe them any money.

This number called me and asked for my SIN which I ******ly gave because I had a communication with Revenue Ca***a before about child Credit which now I am thinking could be posted by them as well to follow through this situation. I got this call today. They said, "Hi this is the CRA calling about a personal tax matter. Can you please verify your date of birth and social insurance number for security purposes." I said, "I don't give out that information to anyone." They replied, "Fine, call us back at 800-959-2256. THE NUMBER DOESN"T EXIST! (The real legit CRA number on the website is 800-959-8281.)I reverse lookup both 931-1026 and the number they said to call back 959-2256 and they don't exist. When reverse looking up the legit number (959-8281) it clear shows up as "Government of Ca***a."They called at 6:10pm while the CRA website says they close at 5pm.W***VER THEY ARE DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION! All the banks, credit card companies, and securities in general are constantly issuing emails that say they will never call you and ask you to verify personal information. These scammers are smart and can manipulate phone numbers with a laptop and a phone line.

We are Tax Prep firm and being pestered by this phone calls EVERY SINGLE DAY.  If you pick up the phone, you will hear ringing after 5 seconds. Why don't they make a direct call instead of making us think it's some kind of ****** call where you get charged if you allow someone on the other line to pick it up. *****S.
