A little over a week ago I setup a UPS account online and I s****ed receiving calls from 1-800-686-2700. I tried to call them back, but a message said the number was not in service. When I did answer the call, they identified themselves as the UPS Marketing Department located in Davenport, Iowa. They wanted to verify my account information and ask a few questions. This sounded sketchy. I called the general UPS line, and they connected me to their accounts department called the "C.R.I.S." Department. After some investigation, the C.R.I.S. department said that UPS does call new customers to verify that they actually setup an account, and to do they they need to verify your name, address, and phone number, and the questionnaire that they want to take you through is basically a check list to see if you need any shipping supplies. The C.R.I.S. department did verify that they have a marketing call center in Davenport, Iowa, but they do not have a number for which to reach that department.I did not like this answer so I called the C.R.I.S. department a***n hoping to talk to someone who could get me that information so I could talk to that marketing division in Davenport, Iowa. But this time a C.R.I.S. person told me that they do not have a center in Davenport and believe that the 800 call from Davenport is fraudulent. This was very alarming so I called the main UPS number a***n and asked to speak to someone higher up about the situation. A service manager told me that he did see the Davenport call center but did not have the address or number, but at the same time he told me that the situation sounds like fraud and would forward my concerns to security,This still did not help me. I wanted to know if I was called by the call center in Davenport. If not, then my credit and information could be in danger and maybe I should close my account and credit card.I finally found the number of a UPS Logistics Center (563) 386-9303 located at 5434 Tremont AveDavenport, Iowa 52807. When I called the number the person said that they were a separate research company that worked for UPS and did not handle marketing calls, and believed that the initial call to me was fraudulent. He told me to call a UPS hub division at 563-391-1101.The lady at the hub division told me that she was a UPS supervisor employee at the shipping hub center and knew of the UPS Logistics Company and****ured me that that center doesn't handle marketing calls. She said she believed the initial call to me was fraudulent.I have been trying to contact the UPS Marketing Department in Davenport, Iowa to figure out if they were calling me legitimately or if someone fraudulent was calling me and was posing as a real UPS Marketing Department.I managed to find a UPS corporate number, (404) 828-6000, I asked to speak to someone about a possible fraud situation. The operator connected me to John Kinnear, from Corporate Customer Relations. He listened to my long and confusing situation and agreed that it sounded strange. He said that he would ask the fraud department and my local UPS department to look into it and watch out for things.A few hours later I received a call from the UPS fraud department. They said that UPS did have a center in Davenport, Iowa but it wasn't showing up as a marketing center. They said that nothing fraudulent appeared to be taking place on my account and that they would look into the 1800 number that called me. They told me that if the 1800 number called me a***n that I should ask them for a phone number that I could reach them at, their address, their department/division, and their ID numbers to try to verify their legitimacy; and if they don't give me that information, not to give them any information, and to call the UPS fraud department.I called my local FBI office because I wanted to know if they would know of any similar reported situations or if they could help at all determine the legitimacy of what was going on. They simply said that they don't have the resources to investigate a situation unless it was already a possible $500,000 crime that has already taken place. It seems that no one can give me a clear answer to whether or not a UPS Marketing Center exists (if not in Davenport, Iowa, then at least somewhere) and called me legitimately. I am left with two possibilities: either there is a serious disparity in information and communication at UPS, or there is a serious security breech and no one cares to look into it.If you have been called by 1-800-686-2700 who has identified themselves as a division of UPS and you subsequently have had questionable things happening with your account, get in contact with the UPS fraud department, file a report with your local FBI office.I am trying to look into this further. I am wondering what your experience with this situation has been. If you can, email me your experience at. I am a member of the news and media community and if I can get enough corroborating stories, I will make a serious effort to put this disparity into the public light.Good luck.

Never answered the phone when they called but they have called just about every day now for the past few weeks, which is about the time when I opened an account with UPS.
