About 12 years ago I did some amateur sleuthing into a "company" identified as Patagon(o?) in mid-PA which was sending checks to the 20-ish son of a friend of mine for "selling" access to a buying service that only promised more and greater discounts as the stores opted to connect and as consumers spent - I believe - only $10 or $15 - once to join. To no surprise, "Pentagon(o?) was never heard of by the appropriate registries/Commonwealth agencies in Harrisburg. Furthermore, the son having said "Pentagon(o?) was also active in Florida. Several calls to that state's appropriate agencies turned up the same "never-heard-of-them" response. None of this young man's marketing paperwork identified an address, state or country of registration, or phone number. I do however recall some possible connection to Ca***a, and possibly, Italy, and the latter may be so only because it could easily be the legitimate name of a registered concern in Italy, the name lending itself to that country's language. Having shared all that relative to a shady "Pentagan(o?), it occurs to me that - unregistered then - it wouldn't have had much trouble reinventing itself with a mere "typo". If "Paragon(o?) offers shopping discounts to those who join, look out. Someone else out there in Consumerville can investigate this time.
