Received a call telling me my application for a Discover Card had been cleared and to call this number if I had questions. When I called back, a lady answered claiming to be from Discover Card. When I told her I had not applied for a Discover Card, she supposedly checked and confirmed that her records also showed I had not applied, however she said she needed to check a different route that would require me giving her my social security number. I received a letter on Discover card stationery. It gave the number 800-347-3072 to discuss the fact that someone has opened a card in my name. I gave them my birthdate and name, then they transferred me to their security department. There, they wanted my SSN, MMN, etc. I felt uncomfortable giving out personal information, so I ***g up and called 800-DISCOVER, then asked for the Fraud Dept. I asked them if the 800-347-3072 number belonged to Discover and they said yes.
