They asked me to call them back to verify information. I called Chase customer service and they gave me the correct number (877-470-9042)

(Voice message) Caller asked me to call the # above at my earliest convenience. When I called I got a recording saying I was preselected for a special offer. (. I ***g up.)

Asked me to call them at this number to verify some information about my account. I called the actual Chase Fraud Detection group to verify that the call was legitimate. IT WAS NOT. Do NOT return their calls - these people are FRAUDSTERS.

Received a voicemail from Chase Fraud Prevention requesting that I call this number back to verify my iden***y, in response to a (legitimate) credit card application that I submitted online.

Lady on the phone said she wanted to verify the information of a recent credit card application for the Amazon visa, which I had applied for earlier that day. Gave me the callback number 888-373-1969 because I said the application stated that I would get an email about this and I would prefer to verify the information online rather than over phone. A direct contradiction of Amazon’s application.

Chase Fraud Prevention, asked to call back to confirm application for a credit card. I checked with Chase's social media representative that this is a valid number and they've confirmed as such.

This caller is not a spammer. This is a legit number for the Chase Fraud Prevention Department. You can look it up by sear****g "Chas Fraud Prevention backdoor number". It's not listed on their website because it gets you past their automated call system.

Claimed to represent Chase Fraud Prevention. Left message stating someone had applied for a Chase Freedom card in my name and left a long reference number about the case. I immediately called Chase and verified that they had no pending application from me for any Chase credit card. Scam call. Do NOT call them and give them any PII. They are a scam.

They left a name Denise, and stated to call the 1 800 278 8830, at my convenience and gave me the hours of operation, I'm calling now, said it would be an hour waiting time. I've been on hold for one and half hours. I'm sure they are busy. But holding for over an hour is ridiculous, even if is it a legit number.

Yes this is a legitimate number. I called the Chase customer service line and had them run this number through their system. They confirmed it was from their fraud prevention department and was legitimate.

Caller mentioned random first name but the same last name as mine--red flag. I called the actual chase fraud department and gave them the ref number the"rep" have me and the phone numbers they called from and their call back number. The real fraud rep said those are not their numbers, my account is fine, they will report this number..

said they were chase fraud department but my amazon credit card is administered by Synchrony bank. they said they were validating my application but i already had the credit card, it was definitely spam, but i realized that too late and already gave them my ssn

Sounds legit because of the whole "this call will be recorded" they asked for name****ociated with account or ss# i gave them my name and zip code and they said they could not find an account. they then asked for my ss# unless i didnt feel comfortable they would give me a call back in the next 3-5 days. my bank confirmed it wasnt them.

Call back number for a recent credit card application. They just needed to verify email. Texted me a code. And address. The original message sounded a bit sketchy but this number had a prompt saying Chase and recorded for quality purposes. The rep gave me their name and it was very professional.

Number for Chase Bank Fraud Department, called to verify my iden***y after a credit card application. They asked for NO personal information other than to verify my cell phone number and then completed the application over the phone.

This is a real number. I got a call from this number asking to verify information for a Chase credit card I applied for. I was su****ious so I called Chase's general customer service number. They were going to transfer me to the right department and I asked for a direct call back number and they gave me this number. They verified my information and approved my credit card request.

This call is not a spammer.

I apply for the Amazon Prime credit card and Chase called me to check my ID and proceed with my application. No scam there

got a call on my answering ma****e from Illinois from a fraud prevention department. Woman's name was Angela. She said I shoud call back and gave me a reference number as well. She sounded very unprofessional. I had to play the message over and over. She spoke with a s***ch impediment that made it hard to understand everything she said, although it appeared that her native tongue was English and that she was American.

Received a call from 800-278-8830.  I was not home and the message was left on my answering ma****e.  They said it was from Amazon and also gave me a reference number to reference when I called back.  I called that number and it was the Fire Department

Yes. This number is true and from a ID prevention service center. I got this call because I used a different address on my recent CC application. They just wanted to verify me by checking my several old home addresses and home phone number, and my business number....

Amazon.com credit card fraud prevention. From everything I could gather they seem legit.

I also received a call from a David (left on the answering ma****e) at fraud prevention, to call him at 1 800 278 8830. He ID himself as with Amazon.Com Visa card. I had applied for the card via Amazon. I never had a call like this before so immediately thought fraud. I will call them back Mon. as the caller said the hours were M-F 7a to 7p.No time zone indicated. I will not give out any crucial info. The Visa card isn't worth getting scammed!!! I also will wait for a letter in the mail to see what's up.

I got called by this # and called back and gave my ref number - then the woman asked for my name and I said "wait a minute - you're with fraud prevention for who."  She seemed taken aback and then said they work for a lot of different companies.  I told her I wasn't comfortable giving info when they wouldn't even tell me who they were.  She said a letter would be coming and I could wait for that if I preferred.  If this is legit, it's because I have iden***y theft protection and I recently applied for a credit card from Countrywide that pays off your mortgage as you use the card.

Received the call today, from 847-488-6000 with a request to call back the 800-278-8830.  It was with United Fraud Services and they wanted to verify that I had in fact submitted a request for a United Airlines credit card.  I had.  Everything seemed legit.  They asked for my name and confirmation of my mailing address and prior mailing address and recent employer.

Mine is a bit different. They sent me a letter in the mail saying they had previously tried getting in touch with me (I do not answer the phone if it looks like someone trying to sell so****ing or whatever). I did not get any messages on my answering ma****e. I had my iden***y stolen a few years ago and do not want to go throught that a***n! I did more to look up the crooks than the police do - that is what one policeman told me. Anyway, I will be calling Chase Bank at a number I know is legit then I will come back to let ya know.

I received a similiar call today on my cell phone where they were called about 7-11 Fraud protection line about information they are asking me to confirm with them. I did recently apply for a 7-11 credit card But I'm not sure what they are looking to verify information for. Im not to sure i'm going to call them back becuase they may in fact be steeling information from me.

got the same call but they said from TJX fraud protection company not sure I want to call back!! :(  the message sounds a bit su****ious!!  I read the comments above but im still skeptical, i applied for a tj max card recently not sure if that in reference to this but im not gonna find out, too much iden***y issues going on. they'll eventually write me a letter if its official!! :(

I called back through Chase's main line 1-800-686-5657 and was transferred to their applications fruad dept. to confirm that this was legit. The rep was able to look up the reference number and tell me that it was for a Disney card.  Someone had fraudulently applied for a credit card in a name that resembled my name.  I am glad they caught it.

Overall, it sounds legit.  3rd party fraud prevention.

PS Said they worked for Chase.  PPS I have many Chase CC's... but did not apply for one recently.

This is the weirdest call.     I received  a call from this number and called back with my reference number.  I was asked a series of questions where it seemed obvious that they KNEW the answers already to things which are generally public knowledge, but would be tedious for 1 NON-BANK/CREDIT CARD COMPANY/CREDIT BUREAU to compile.  For example, multiple previous addresses where I lived, but never owned or was a renter (lived with a friend, CC bills went there), mother's birthday, employer (they gave me these as multiple choice or half-answer questions where I answered the other half or the correct multiple choice ***?).    Basically they told me that someone had applied for a CC in my name.  He did ask for my social and DOB which I did not provide.  He left off telling me to c****e my passwords online and inform the credit bureaus of this situation.  So weird.  If this is NOT legit, these guys are good????

I just got a call from the same number - Chase Bank fraud prevention, working for Southwest Airlines. I had signed up for a SWA credit card and they said they were confirming the information.I'm encouraged that noone on this site has a report of wrong-doing! It's such a fraudulent time right now. It's good to confirm that people calling you and asking for personal information are on the up-and-up!

I received a call from them as well.  Not sure if they serve other companies, but they run the Fraud Prevention Department for Continental Airlines.I applied for a Continental Airlines' credit card, and accidentally used an invalid address.  This prompted a call from 800 number above.

I just received a voice message from this number, said they are ***(I never heard it before) fraud department.
