I can confirm that the calls from this number originate with the fundraising division of the Conservative Party of Ca***a.On the issue of dead air, the only reason you receive this is that you are not patient.  Call centers use a technology called "auto-dialling".  Operators do not physically dial a number from a phone set.  It is automated using a very sophisticated computer system.  The phone numbers are loaded into the system, the phone system then sees how many phone operators are sitting waiting to take a call.  The autodialler s****s dialling a number from the list.  When the dialler detects that the number is ringing through, it tells the phone system that there is a call coming through shortly, the phone system now finds an available telephone operator.  When you pick up the phone, a signal is sent to the phone system to say that you have picked it up.  It is at THIS POINT that the system attempts to connect you to an available operator.  There is a slight delay while the system sends you to an available operator - and this operator could be in the same building or half way around the world!  The dead air you hear is this delay from the time you pickup to the time the system connects to an operator.  YOu don't have to like it, but this is the way it is.  It's far more efficient that giving a list of numbers to an operator to dial manually.  The system also tracks which calls were answered so that if you did answer, it does not put your number back in the queue to be called a***n anytime soon.

When you place this number on block (if ur fone supports this feature) then it rings busy to that caller. Their automated dialing equipment then appears to retry the number about every 10-20 minutes for at least 4-5 times. Unfortunately each time the fone rings once before the call is blocked, but at least you know not to run for the fone! Their gear seems to recognize other ****ods (pickup and ****up) and recalls. For "Chris" to say what he did in the previous post is BS - they know exactly why there r so many calls, and the extent of the mindless persistence at all hours of the day and night - it IS their dialling gear. And I vote Conservative!! Or did, anyway...

As far as I know, it's illegal to use auto-dialers in Ca***a. It's also illegal to call people who are on the laughable DNC list. Thanks Conservative party...you've given us the two most expensive, useless jokes of legislation...the gun control law (criminals don't register their guns) and the Do Not Call list (low-life telemarketers purchase it as a treasure trove of confirmed active phone numbers.) Welcome to the inaction and inept style of Ca***ian legislators and their watchdog "enforcers" like the CRTC. I suspect this phone number is actually a telemarketer operating out of the US and s****ing the number. Report it to your phone company.

This makes at least a dozen times I've been called by (613-219-1293 "6132191293"), which is how it appears on my call display. A callback would seem to indicate the Conservative Party of Ca***a but I am now suspecting it's a "s****ed" number as I can't imagine the fundraisers calling on Sunday's or after 9 pm as some have indicated the calls where. I've formally had the call traced by the telephone company and am prepared to take legal action, so I'm keeping a log of the calls. Enough is enough.

I am a receptionist at a buisness and they constantly call daily. Everytime I get a call from a telemarketer I wait until they answer so I can tell them to take our number off of their calling list. However, they consistently **** up promply after I answer, leaving me with a dial tone. So Mark you are inaccurate to say that people are not patient.I am extremely irritated with these phone calls and they disrupt my busy workday!

I got this caller and the caller ID said the number with quotation marks and without the 1 at the begining all try asked for is my Dad.  then I checked on Ca***a 411 and they couldn't identify the phone number so I check the area codes and 613 is from somewhere in Ontario

I know its from the Conservative Party, so I poke fun at it and every time they call I just blurt out and say , "If you keep calling me like this, I'm never gonna support the Conservative party." That should stop them.

CallerID shows "613-219-1293" (including quotation marks) for the name.  I did not recognize the number, so I let the computer answer.  No message was left, but based on reports given here, I have put a block on the number.

They just don't stop calling me last days, but I don't answer when I see a phone number I don't know. No messages left. But I'm wondering how did they get my number, because it supposed to be confidential.

Called at 9:30 p.m March 23, 2009.  I was in bed when the call woke me up.  Didn't get there in time to answer it.

The most interesting thing about these crooks is the caller ID NAME appearing in quotes "613-219-1293". Wonder how they do that?
