Look, all of these SMS Phishing texts are sent using false information. The only communication that goes back to the sender is when you reply to the text itself. They can then sell these numbers as valid to other scammers as well as take your money once there's a communication channel opened up that you fall into. The origination number is random and fic***ious. The email address for opting out doesn't exist either. The messages are not sent from a mobile phone so they send thousands at a time using random number tables generated from known carrier number****ignments. They're sent from a computer using a s****ing app and there's no cost at all to the sender. Virtually every cellphone with SMS or email turned on will receive a message sent to [email protected]. Write your congressman. If you have a blackberry, then you can use Privacy Star. I'm sure other apps will soon be available for the other smart phones....but they cost a few bucks. Once you have one of these apps, the info, the real iden***y info is trapped and can be forwarded to the FCC as a Can-Spam and/or Do not Disturb violation. That will get you $11,500 from the sender as a penalty fine....but you gotta catch em!
