IRS NEVER CONTACTS people demanding money and threatening arrest if not paid. I received a voice message on my home phone from an "Eric Adler" of the Internal Revenue Service Tax Law or Tax Fraud Dept ( I couldn't understand what he actually said because of the thick accent). He stated that there was a legal petition notice against my name and I should call 202-239-5649 with the name of my criminal attorney (? - once again, hard to understand). Then, two minutes later, I received a second voice mail from the same guy on the same phone line, identical message but to a different person, the next person on his scam list. I received a phone call from Pay Phone number 818-239-1445. They left the following official sounding message: "Hello. We have been trying to reach you. This call is an official notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing law suit against you. To get more information from this case file, please call immediatley on our department number 202-239-5409. I repeat 202-239-5409. Thank you." I will not be calling them back. The IRS mails notices!

Same scenario as sjm above. The foreign sounding guy actually snickered when he left the voice mail. I called him back after reading sjm's comment. The guy said that the x police would be arresting me. I said good (I don't even live in that city anymore). I asked him where he was located, he did not reply. He hung up. I recorded the conversation and called the DC police (because of it being a 202 area code phone number). The police said that technically a crime wasn't committed, even though he claimed that I would be arrested. She too said that it was a scammer and that it was probably a cell phone call and could be from outside the area. Since no information was given to him, technically a crime was not committed. A threat of being arrested by the police apparently is not a crime.

Got an automated call from a computerized voice, saying the IRS was suing me and to call this number, 202-239-6601. It's an obvious fraud.

I applied for an installment loan online and got a call from this number claiming the company was clicknloan.com. We had several conversations and they instructed me to go to Rite-Aid Pharnacy and buy a Green Dot Money card for $4.95 and they would deposit some money into my account and then I was to return the money via the Green Dot card. All went as instructed but then the funds were not deposited into my account (the loan) as I asked for an increase in the amount to be loaned. I was to call back in the morning but Dennis beat me to the punch, he called this morning and said that another transaction like the previous day had to be performed to be able to process the higher amount of loan requested. I called from the Rite-Aid as instructed and today, I called 100's of times and the call kept disconnecting. Finally someone answers the phone claiming it was a Pizza Hut. SCAMMMMMMM!!!! BE WARE!

Asked if this was official IRS office - he then gave me his supervisor. I explained too many scams and I wanted to be assured this was the official IRS office and give me the address they said they sent an official letter to. Gave some address I never heard of, told him so, and also said they had wrong name. He then said he would check on it and call back. Have not heard from him. I believe this is a scam. They try to get info from you by giving wrong name, address, etc. so you will give them yours and use scare tactics. Please beware folks. They told me I won 1.2 million dollars that would come by check + 15,000.00 cash. I took his name down, then he told me to send $1,000.00 to a lawyer by the name of Kelli Smith at 279 Boulder Valley Road in Idabel Oklahoma 74745. He needed me to go get a cashiers check for the $1,000.00 and mail it overnight to the Oklahoma address and call him back within an hour, so I guess I'll just wait to see if he calls me instead. I'm glad I kept him on the line for over 30 minutes, that way there's someone else out there that he didn't have time to scam. I'll play him along while I check out the Oklahoma address and the name of the lawyer he gave me. If you get a call from "Ken Eric Lamar" you'll know it's a scam. See if you can get more info out of him than I did. Yea, I love doing this to these SCAMERS.

My 90 year old mom got the same call. They tried to convince her to pay $500 through Green Dot to claim her $3.5 million in prize money. Received a call from 1 800 number and person posing to be calling from USCIS office. He inquired about my father. When i mentioned my father is not home, he asked whether i can get HER cell phone number. Apparantly, he didnt know whether my father's name was a name of male or a female. So, i asked what was this about. The caller said he hasnt updated his alien registration number this year and immigration office has filed a legal case against him. If he doesnt get in touch with my father within 48 hours, they will have arrest warrant for him. I laughed in my had because my father has been citizen of US for past 30 yrs and never had to RENEW his alien registration number. Just to play along, i said, please give me your phone number and address where i can reach you back and he gave me this number. He insisted on getting my father's cell number and i said he doesnt carry a cell. he mentioned there is a large amount of legal fees that he has to pay if he doesnt want to get arrested, i said "first of all, you are calling me from your house not an immigration service because you have a heavy indian accent, i can hear people talking in hindi in the background and when i asked for his name he hesistated and kept saying he is not allowed to divulge his information. I said i work for law and enforcement (which i dont) and the first thing any goverment official or agent should do is identify theirselves. He hung up." What an idiot!!

Told me that I was in violation of the immigration act and that if I didn't cooperate - they were sending someone to arrest me. When I told her that my number is in Do Not Call List - she immediately hung out phone.

I got this call from someone named David Martin and he claimed to be an IRS investigator. He had an indian accent and that should have been my clue to save myself from wasting my time on this call. Indian accent and the name David MArtin do not go together. Anyways, he explained about the felonies which I didnt understand and regarding the IRS fraud. Later on he asked me to pay $1000 and i told him i do not have that money to pay within 30 mins. He then told me to pay whatever I had in my bank account. He threaten me that police will on my door in half hour. I wanted to get as much information on what he is gonna do. So I told him I dont drive and I have to take the bus to go get the money from the bank. At that he goes how can you not drive living in the states for so long. A government official does not say that. He finally told me I will be behind bars within 30 minutes. Then he hung up.

I received a voice mail on my home phone from a man with a heavy Indian accent, claiming to be an officer with the Federal Investigation Department. He identified himself as officer Eric Johnson. I was told that he was calling regarding a legal complaint that had been filed against me and that I needed to call their "hotline" number (202.239.0595); he also said that if I failed to return the call, I would be the only person responsible for the legal consequences of this case file. At the end of the message, he said "God Bless You." It sounded like a scam to me, so I did some research online and there have been similar messages/ scams going on over the last few years, all using phone numbers in the Washington DC area that start with 202-239. I wanted to make sure that this number got reported as well for being a scam.

The person first left a message on my voice mail saying this is an IRS call about unsettled documents. I thought it was the tax form and returned the call. They started to ask questions to identify me, such as have I been arrested? Have I changed home addresses? They even knew my previous mailing address. Then the person told me IRS is issuing a warrant to arrest me because document evasion. My family possessions would be confiscated etc. Then the person told me I could talk with their Senior Director about this issue. I started to check online during the call and noticed that it was a scam. The "Senior Director" asked me in slangs that If I want to be picked up by local police. That really spoiled the show. At least the SD should say you are under arrest for falsifying documents, and you will be charged with fraud, etc. not some "pick up". Anyway, just FYI, shut them up if you receive the similar calls.

Got the call and wondered if it was legit. The man had an Indian accent, and never used my last name or gave the address of my property, so I figured it was a scam right off the bat. Said he was calling from the legal office of Michael Rice, so I called them back. They answered as the criminal branch of the IRS, and I told them I had an FBI agent on the other line who wanted to talk to them. They immediately hung up. Guessing it's just another scam.

These guys are criminals saying that they are from IRS. They call you and say that you broke all possible US laws including the Constitution. Your traffic tickets are also in the list of your crimes:) The only way to avoid arrest is to pay them immediately (the amount is couple thousand dollars and varies depending on their appetite). I did not leave any message and disconnected. Minutes later, my work phone rang. Got a call from this guy from "state & investigation" regarding some legal IRS case filed against me and my personal property. It definitely sounded like a scammer... I paid my taxes!!!

OBVIOUS SCAM -- DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION. A guy with an Indian or Pakistani accent, calling himself "Robert Marshall", left two messages asking for my wife. Mentioned something about IRS, audit, and social security number, all very hard to hear because the connection was breaking up badly both times. I returned the call to confront this obvious scammer. Connection was very bad, breaking up constantly. Called again. A very gruff Mr. "Marshall" insisted on getting my name. Of course I refused. Just said that I would be arrested and detained for 72 hours then deported??? Not quite certain where she's sending me bc I am a US citizen. Turns out this scam is either from India or Pakistan. She has a slightly british accent with an Indian undertone. The little witch did get me for a a little while, but know this: 1. the IRS will always identify themselves by their name and their ID #. 2. they will never call and ask for your personal info. Got a call on my answering machine from "Officer" Michael Delgado of the IRS Crimes DIvision (202-239-7249). The message was that some serious criminal complaints have been made against me and I need to call him back immediately before they proceed with criminal charges. Having had a few minor disagreements with the IRS, I know they contact in writing through the mail first. I was suspicious so I checked the phone number and found this forum and a couple Twitter posts about the IRS scam. I haven't decided if I will just blow it off or call him back and demand information in writing. I do find it intersting that the phone number was originally for a UPS scam listed in the first post.

I got a phone call from a man with a very thick Indian accent saying he was with the IRS claiming that there was an arrest warrant on me.

My wife just received a call from this number and basically hung up on this guy. He called back and insisted he talk to me. So with a smile on my face I said I would love to speak to him, which my wife relayed to the caller. He claimed to be "Officer" Ben Clayton with the IRS and informed me that there is a report of tax fraud against me. I told him this was an obvious scam and that the IRS would not contact me via a phone call. I did speak to him for a few minutes asking him to repeat certain information and then finally hung up.

They said they were located in 1111 cons***ution avenue NW 3rd floor, Washington DC. They told me that I need to go to the local precinct and hand myself in and they will fax over the the information over to the precinct to arrest. There was a guy called Brian Johnson with an Indian accent which looks like the man guy. Watch out, a scammer is using this number! I got a threatening message from a heavy accented "Peter Collins" who claimed to be from the IRS. His English was broken and incoherent. He said that there was "a case filed against my name and social security number" and either myself or my attorney needed to call him back immediately. If I didn't call him, I'd be issued an arrest warrant and be responsible for legal consequences. Obviously I didn't call him. This is the same scam reported by several others for 585-633-**** numbers (only now they're able to fake a Washington DC number!), and Peter Collins was one of the names used there too. Internet searches indicate that "Peter Collins" has also been used in Central Bank of Nigeria scams.

I should have known as soon as they request you to get a green dot card for 180.00 and they stay on the phone while you buy it, then they ask for the card number to prove you can make your first payment. Once they get your money they tell you your bank will call. Ok red flag #2 Why would they know your bank is going to call and say they cant accept your transfer because your routing number is interstate. Well stop right there... I questioned them about this and they claimed they called me left messages and sent me Postal mail as well and now it's a police matter the woman said .The next call was from a man who said they would send the police to my house in two hours (they had my address) They Called several times threatening a visit to my home from them. , then they called back wanting to know if I am single or married, and said they have something special for me and finally the man said he wanted to marry me. They called back one more time as well. You can barely understand these people (there were three different ones who called from the above number who spoke broken English.

Pretended to be from IRS audit commission. Gave fake case # and threatened arrest by local police within 24 hours if payment not made immediately over the phone.

I received a phone call from this number 202 239 6791. He had an Indian accent and saying that I am under investigation. When I called them back no one talked to me. This person calls everyone to harass them.

I received a call from this number they left a message today saying he was from IRS Crime Investigation Unit and there was a warrant for my arrest. When I called back a answering machine picked up I left a message. He called me back and some man whith a strong accent, indian or asian tone speak in English answered and proceeded to tell me I had a warrant out for my arrest unless I could make a payment right now otherwise I was in serious trouble. He ask me where I was and if this was my cellphone and if I had $1400+... when I ask him how much was it he said $1500 and if I was willing to solve the problem right now and pay. He did not want to talk to my CPA. I ask to sent me the info for the problem and I will be happy to sent the check. He got extremely nasty with me! Yelling at me saying his job was in danger and I was out of time. He said I made a commitment to pay today. He gave me the claim number. I said to him that I was going to contact the IRS to verify why I own money. He got so mad at me began to scream at me again that I have to go to court and he will sent a deputy from the sherif office to warrant me or arrest me and then hung up on me!

I received 5 calls from them in one day. I blocked the number. But when they first called I got realy mean with them, telling them its a scam and to stop calling because they arent getting anything from me. They continued to call back. The next three calls I answered and started having fun with them until they hung up on me. It was alot of fun. Until they called me back two more times, and I just stopped answering it. I blocked the number friom my phone and have no idea if they have called back or not. either way, there scammers. The IRS will NOT call you and ask you to pay over the phone. Either way, if they call you guys, call them out, and have fun with them. Watch how wrilled up you can get them, its great fun on a boring day. :)

They have called me three times, left two threatening voicemails so I decided to answer today when they called. I answered with "Hey, just wanted to let you know that I have reported this to the Treasury Department Inspectors Office and the FTC so you can stop calling me now!" He said he was with the IRS and that they.... I butted in with what is my SS#? he started to answer with some sort of information of privacy act.... I stopped him and asked why he had an Anglican name with an east Indian accent? This made him mad and he started to cuss me out, all I could understand was he was signing an affidavit and they were taking all my assets and arresting me and I would be a frickin pauper... I said go ahead and alos go to the IRS.Gov website and the FTC website they are warning the US population about this scam... he hung up on me, punk I wanted to ask him which terrorist organization he was trying to fund!

I received several calls from this number they finally left a message yesterday saying he was from IRS Crime Investigation Unit and there was a warrant for my arrest. When I called back a answering machine picked up that said it was full and I couldn't leave a message. Well I didn't have any money to pay them yesterday (thank god) so he said he talked to his supervisor and said he could hold it for one more day. So at 9 am this morning my phone (cell number) was ringing from the same number. I waited a few hours and called him back. He wanted me to make a payment I told him I needed more time because I still didn't have any money. He got extremely nasty with me! Yelling at me saying his job was in danger and I was out of time. He said I made a commitment to pay 300.00 today! We never discussed how much money I would pay today and it certainly wouldn't be 300.00! I said to him that I was going to contact the IRS just to make sure he was legit he got so mad at me began to scream at me again and then hung up on me!

obviously a bogus caller referencing IRS Audit. Wanting to receive money for IRS payment vouchers to pay off IRS debt.

IRS agents when they call are supposed to give their name & badge # in clear english & do not negotiate criminal cases over the telephone. Caller did not know I was a tax accountant when he cited IRC 501 which has nothing to do with personal income taxes. He was evasive & kept threatening to sent the police to my doorsteps. I told him may sure you sent cops speak english better than you. Few minutes later a woman with worst english than him called threatening to have me arrested in 72 hrs. If I don't comply. They sounded just like the Wal-Mart Gift Card scammers

Got 2 calls today to my land line with 2 different no. , impersonating IRS officers ... the joke is .. if you call them back a woman will answer and tell you that you are talking to the IRS criminal investigation unit :) those people do not afraid of finding them cause they are already not in the states ..

The scammers are at it again, had 8 calls today from this number 202-239-7173 Says he is from the IRS and wants to talk to my husband, so I thought I would toy with them and told them my husband would probably run. That made him mad and he said I would have to fix it then I said why they are not coming after me I dont care and thats when they proceeded to call 6 more times in 5 minutes! This Indian accent man said they where sending the police over in 40 minutes if I did not fix this problem! Send them over! They have now called me 7 mores times today! 6 times within 5 minutes. In which I would not answer.Told the stupid person we dont own cell phones and the guy doesnt believe me! He wanted me to call my husband and tell him they where on there way to arrest him for some IRS stuff. I told him my husband would run. LOL That made him really mad! And the indian guy told me I would have to take care of it, and I said why they are not coming after me. I dont care!

someone keeps calling our home with heavy Indian accent telling my husband that he has a criminal charges 4 counts with IRS and that he tells him that he is illegally in this country so we know that it a scam they just called back again and also requesting to speak with my husband tell me that he has charges against him and I asked him what are the charges he say I can't tell you I need to speak with him. I advised that I will need your badge number and name he gave my this bogus name and badge number and then I asked him for the case number and he unable to give me that information and that we can go to the local IRS office and police station if we don't believe him I told him I will call the IRS DEPT and I will talk to them regarding any kind issue because I know for fact that IRS doesn't call the people for any charges or penalty. they are persistent in trying to get your information and get money out of you.

Someone with a heavy indian accent called and asked for my son Steven and then said this is officer Mike Dillar and that he needed to talk to him and wanted his phone number, but this is my husband and he would know if he is the owner of the house, not my son. And said it was urgent that he talk to him. He should call him back right away. I then asked the man, "what is this about?" He said, I can only talk to him is there another number I can reach him at. He would also know this if he was a real officer that my husband doesnt believe in cell phones so he doesnt own one. I just toyed with him for a while acting like I was interested and would tell my husband. LOL

Called back and got his vim saying he was Officer Taylor and have a blessed day. No indication of what department, if I had a case number... Sounded odd that he only had my first initial, and I bet he got this from the phone book. Scammer!! Do not believe anything this person says!!

Got a phone call form Mr. Eric Matthews with the IRS (this time)...Told him to get lost and laughed...He said that the police will be over at my house within 30 minutes...Replied back "Good, tell them I have coffee and donuts"...The Nerve of These Parasites!!!

My mom got a msg from that same number telling her that a warrant has been issued in her name and that they have been trying to reach her by mail. They messed up by calling her by her middle name, which the IRS wouldn't call her by because she has never filed her taxes under that name. The caller also never said his name but expect a call back. It was very clear from the start that it was a scanner.

I got several calls from strange phone numbers this week since i loaded my account on chase bank. some of them are indians. I had a phone call yesterday from 6104987018 with no message left. Be careful they are scammers and if you catch one of them please let me share you smaching their heads! they called before a couple of month from different phone numbers they told me i won gift card and some other stuff for 100$ or so just need to pay your shipping which is 4$ something i didn't give them my credit card number he was so pushy and didn't give my birthday they succeeded getting my name and address just tell your banks when you load money to increase their security. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THIS NUMBER, it's definitely a scam, as I reported it to the police and was told that were several similar cases. The callers will threaten you with arrest and ask if you need a criminal lawyer. They'll ask you to use a green dot MoneyPak card to transfer the funds. In any case, just hang up or tell them you'll call back and call the official number of whomever they're representing (in this case it was the IRS) and make sure everything is legitimate. The police said they would change their number or use a disposable one, so this number may not even work after this day. BEWARE!

just received a phone call from this number, Indian accent-hard to understand-said he was from IRS and that my physical address was under investigation also received a call from 202-241-2053 saying he was FBI-Indian accent-hard to understand and that my physical address was under investigation. he finished the message by saying "god bless" who does that?? both have to be scams, DO NOT give out personal information without verifying who they are--both sounded like the same person- no way in hell an FBI agent would sound like that at all

I recieved the same call from "Officer Kevin Patterson" from the same number. The IRS does not contact via phone, they are required to send several notices via mail to maintain a paper trail. Therefore, I knew this was a scam. When I called back, I asked him for his full name, a good call back number and his IRS badge number. All IRS representives only give their Sir name "Mr. or Mrs. Smith" fr example, and they are also required to give their IRS employee badge number before conducting any business or questioning. When I asked for the IRS phone number he could not give it to me, which I already knew what it was, and he stuttered when I asked for his badge number. I informed him that I am an Auditor in the Financial Crimes Division for one of the worlds largest banks, which is the truth, and I also asked him if he knew that impersinating a Federal Official such as an "Officer of the IRS" is, by law, a Federal offense. Apparently he did not know this because he became very aggitated and hung up... It pathetic what people will do to scare people out of their money rather than working for it.

Said if I didn't call back they had no other choice but to proceed with criminal charges. Very hard to understand

I received 3 calls from 202 239 8721 and a Daniel White (Indian accent) told me that the IRS has a criminal investigation against me and I need to call ASAP. I work for a CPA firm so I knew that this was a hoax, plus, the IRS contacts anyone through writing and does not make calls like this one and then say's, God Bless at the end of his message.
